Privacy Policy

Last updated:

We, SynthScript, Owner: Christoph Kretschmer, Hornisgrindestraße 9, 77855 Achern, Germany (“we” or “us”), operate the website https://pxlmonk.com and the desktop application pxlmonk. Below, we explain transparently which data we process on this website, when, why, and on what legal basis — and which rights you have.

I. Data Controller

SynthScript, Owner: Christoph Kretschmer
Hornisgrindestraße 9, 77855 Achern, Germany
Email: info@pxlmonk.com
Website: https://pxlmonk.com

Note: There is currently no obligation to appoint a data protection officer. If this changes, we will publish the contact details here.

II. The pxlmonk Application Itself

pxlmonk is a local, offline-first desktop application. It does not require an account or login, does not synchronize your photos or catalog to any server we operate, and does not transmit your images, edits, or library metadata to us or to any third party. Everything — your photo library, edit history, film-scan conversions and exports — stays on your own computer unless you actively choose to share or export a file yourself. We therefore process no personal data whatsoever in connection with using the application itself; this privacy policy only concerns your visit to the website pxlmonk.com and the forms on it.

A future version of pxlmonk may offer optional, clearly-labelled functionality that requires network access (for example, checking for software updates or verifying a Pro-tier license key). If and when such a feature ships, we will update this policy and the in-app documentation before it is enabled.

III. Website Provision & Log Files

When our pages are accessed, our web server automatically records the following information in temporary log files:

  • Browser type/version, operating system
  • IP address, date and time of access
  • Page/file requested, referrer URL, amount of data transferred

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the stable, secure operation of the website).

Storage period: Server log files are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting purposes and then deleted or anonymized.

Web fonts: The fonts used on this website are hosted on our own server. They are not loaded from external providers (such as Google Fonts), so no data — in particular your IP address — is transferred to any third party when the fonts are loaded.

We do not use any analytics, tracking, or advertising services on this website.

IV. Local Storage & Cookies

This website does not set analytics or marketing cookies. The only piece of information we store in your browser is a small entry in your browser's local storage that remembers your choice in the cookie/consent banner (whether you accepted or declined optional cookies), so we don't ask again on every visit. This entry stays on your own device, is never transmitted to our server, and contains no personal data beyond your yes/no choice.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in not repeatedly asking for a decision you already made).

You can delete this entry at any time via your browser's site data settings, or by using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer to change your choice again.

V. Waitlist Sign-up

pxlmonk has not been released yet. If you enter your email address on the “Download” page to be notified once it is available, we process:

  • Your email address
  • The language of the page you signed up from
  • Date and time of sign-up, and your IP address (for spam prevention, see below)

Purpose: to send you a single email once pxlmonk is available for download. We do not send a newsletter and do not use this list for any other marketing.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent, given via the checkbox on the form).

Storage period: Your email address is kept until we send the release notification, or until you ask us to delete it beforehand (see contact details above) — whichever comes first. Afterwards it is deleted unless you separately opt into further communication.

Spam protection: To protect the form against automated submissions, we briefly process your IP address in pseudonymized (hashed) form for rate-limiting, for a maximum of 10 minutes, and then automatically discard it. No third-party captcha service is used. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in preventing abuse).

VI. Contact Form

If you contact us via the contact form, we process the data you provide — name, email address, subject and message — solely to handle your request and any related follow-up.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent) and, where your enquiry concerns a contract or pre-contractual measures, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Storage period: We delete this data once your request has been conclusively handled, unless statutory retention obligations apply. You may withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future.

Spam protection: as described in section V above, applied identically to this form.

VII. Hosting

This website is hosted on servers operated on our behalf by a hosting provider in Germany, who processes data (in particular server log files, see section III) exclusively as our processor under Art. 28 GDPR, based on a data processing agreement.

VIII. TLS Encryption

This website uses TLS encryption (recognizable by the “https://” prefix and the padlock symbol in your browser) to protect the confidentiality of data transmitted to and from this site.

IX. Your Rights

Subject to the applicable legal requirements, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • Request rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Request erasure of your data (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • Request restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • Withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR)
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Germany, the data protection authority responsible for Baden-Württemberg

To exercise any of these rights, simply contact us using the details in section I.

X. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example when we add new website functionality or when legal requirements change. The version published on this page is always the current one.
